Listening & Reading: Useful Online Resources

In this video, I’d like to show you several useful websites for learners of Czech where you can find listening (in audio or video form) with transcripts, and sometimes even with interactive exercises. Last but not least is the website of the municipal library in Prague that offers some e-books for free.

Free online course where you can get to the A2 level, or even higher (if you want to specialize on medical Czech). You need to register there to access the materials.
Free short videos with transcripts and interactive exercises, focused on work and schools in the Czech Republic. Useful practical situations and phrases!
  • Čeština pro cizince – výuková videa
The official website providing information about the Czech language exam for the permanent residency permit (A1/A2 level). They have created short videos with transcripts and worksheets focused on various practical situations, such as communication with neighbours, calling the ambulance, buying medicine, calling the police, etc. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
In this video, I’m telling you about the Czech Etiquette videos, but the Czech TV offers many programmes online that are available with subtitles, so I’m sure you can find something that interests you!
Also the Czech radio is definitely a useful source of materials when you want to practice listening (but still need the transcript to check you understood correctly). For example, The One-minute Plays can be interesting.
Finally, the Prague Municipal Library is another website you should know about because they do not offer just paper books, but also e-books, and some of them even for free!
